Disse Flávio Comim:
Vou poder ensinar aos meus alunos/as, como é trabalhar com o capability approach do Amartya Sen e da Martha Nussbaum. Segue o resumo do curso: the Capability Approach offers one of the most comprehensive frameworks for assessing human development. It is intellectually rigorous, requiring a strong foundation in ethical theory—such as Aristotelian and Kantian traditions—alongside analytical distinctions designed to navigate richer informational spaces. In this course, we introduce the core philosophical concepts essential for development practitioners to apply the approach with confidence and breadth. This framework stands as a compelling alternative to traditional economic development models that focus narrowly on income or utilitarian principles, often constrained by welfarist and consequentialist assumptions. In its formulation by Professor Amartya Sen, the Capability Approach equips scholars and practitioners with tools for an informational and ethically pluralist perspective on development. Our emphasis is on practical applications: from understanding conversion factors to addressing subjective biases, we explore operational instruments for measuring human development, including techniques such as partial ordering rankings (posets). The course focuses on indicators that embody a commitment to human flourishing and social justice. This program stands out as one of the few opportunities worldwide to engage deeply with the operationalization of Sen’s Capability Approach at the master’s level.
Que mais posso dizer? É um grande trio: Comim, Sen e Nussbaum (Nogueira...)
